Our Commitment to Accessibility

New Testament Church of God Luton is committed to making our website accessible to everyone. We believe that every person — regardless of ability, disability, age, or the technology they use — deserves equal access to information about our community, our services, and our faith.

This accessibility statement applies to our website at lutonntcg.org.uk. It explains the accessibility standards we aim to meet, any known areas where we fall short, and how to contact us if you experience difficulties or need content in an alternative format.

We recognise that accessibility is not a destination but an ongoing commitment. We are actively working to improve the experience for all our visitors, and we welcome feedback that helps us do that better.

Who This Statement Is For

This statement is for anyone who visits our website, including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice recognition software, or keyboard-only navigation. It is also for those who need content in alternative formats — for example, large print, audio, or plain language versions.

The Standard We Are Working Towards

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. These guidelines are published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and are the internationally recognised standard for web accessibility. They are organised around four principles — that web content must be:

• Perceivable — information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
• Operable — user interface components and navigation must be operable
• Understandable — information and the operation of the interface must be understandable
• Robust — content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies

While we have not yet conducted a full independent accessibility audit, we are actively working to meet WCAG 2.2 AA across our entire website. We will commission a formal audit as part of our ongoing development of the site.

How Accessible Our Website Is

We have designed and built our website with accessibility in mind. Below we describe what we have done well and where we are aware of current limitations.

What We Have Done

• All pages use semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy, enabling screen readers to navigate content effectively
• All images include descriptive alternative text, or are marked as decorative where they carry no informational value
• The website uses sufficient colour contrast between text and background colours throughout, including within our NTCG brand palette
• Text can be resized up to 200% using browser zoom without loss of content or functionality
• Our minimum font size across the site is set at 1.5rem to support readability
• All interactive elements — including buttons, links, and form fields — have visible focus indicators for keyboard users
• Navigation can be completed using a keyboard alone, without the use of a mouse
• Forms include clearly associated labels for all input fields
• Animated content — including our hero section animations — is disabled automatically when a user has enabled the “reduce motion” setting on their device
• Video content embedded from YouTube includes closed caption options provided by YouTube’s platform
• Our colour scheme has been tested to avoid reliance on colour alone as the only means of conveying information
• Links have descriptive text that makes sense out of context, rather than generic phrases like “click here”
• All pages have a descriptive title that identifies the site and the specific page
• The language of each page is identified in the HTML, enabling screen readers to use the correct pronunciation rules

Known Limitations

We are aware of some areas of our website that do not yet fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. We are working to address these:

• PDF documents — any PDF documents we have uploaded to the site may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working to ensure all new documents are published in accessible formats, and to review existing documents. If you need any document in an alternative format, please contact us.
• Third-party embedded content — some content embedded from third-party platforms (such as YouTube video players, social media feeds, or giving platforms) is outside our direct control. We have no ability to modify the accessibility of third-party interfaces. We direct users to those platforms’ own accessibility information where relevant.
• Older content — some earlier pages and posts on our website may predate our current accessibility standards and may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We are reviewing older content as part of our ongoing improvement programme.
• Live streaming — our live Sunday services broadcast on YouTube. Live captions are not always available during the live broadcast, though recordings are generally captioned after the fact. We are exploring options to improve live captioning.
• Complex data tables — where we use tables to present information (for example, in our legal documents), we aim to include proper table headers and summaries. Some older tables may not fully meet this standard and will be updated.

Disproportionate Burden

We have not made any formal claim of disproportionate burden in relation to any accessibility requirement. We believe that meeting WCAG 2.2 AA is achievable across our website and we are committed to working towards this in full.

What We Can Provide

On request, we are able to provide:

• Text versions of any page content
• Large print versions of key documents and leaflets
• Sermon audio files for those who have difficulty reading transcripts

While NTCG Luton is not a public sector body and is therefore not subject to the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations 2018, we are subject to the Equality Act 2010, which requires all service providers — including charities — to make reasonable adjustments to ensure disabled people are not put at a disadvantage.

Immediate Priorities (2026)

• Review and update all PDF documents to ensure they are tagged and structured for screen reader accessibility
• Audit all existing images to verify alt text quality and accuracy
• Review all embedded third-party content and provide text alternatives where possible
• Review older blog posts and pages against current accessibility standards
• Explore live captioning options for our Sunday services livestream

Ongoing Commitments

• All new pages, posts, and content added to the website will be created to WCAG 2.2 AA standard
• All new images will include appropriate alt text before publication
• All new video content will include captions
• Accessibility will be considered as a core requirement in all future website development work
• We will commission a formal independent accessibility audit to identify any gaps we have not yet identified ourselves
• This accessibility statement will be reviewed and updated at least annually, and whenever significant changes are made to the website
